Umubano tours is a professional outfit with fantastic guides and service. Our guide John Bosco is a popular man in the Northern Province and seems to know everyone! He picked us up at Kigali airport and spent the 5 days we were there driving and guiding us through the Northern and Eastern provinces of Rwanda. This included Akagera National Park and Volcanos National Park.
These guys have great connections and are extremely knowledgable about the nature and history of Rwanda. They also provide tours of Uganda, Congo and Burundi as well.
I’m so glad that we chose Umubano and had John Bosco as our guide. Our main contact at Umubano was Herbert Gato. He was easy to work with and made sure that everything was going well for us on our journey to Africa.
I am a solo female traveller and through my Australian based Travel Agency(Globetrotters Travel also known as Safaris into Africa Toowoomba based) I was fortunate enough to have been given Bosco employed by Umubano Tours as my guide while in Rwanda .I was promptly met at Kigali airport and transferred to Mountain Gorilla Lodge for my trek to see the Rwanda gorillas. Bosco was very knowledgeable in his hometown and surroundings. I was promptly met each morning and driven to my gorilla trek and then back to Kigali. At no time was I left wondering what was to happen next as Bosco would explain to me each afternoon the itinerary for the next day. I cannot praise Bosco enough for making my time spent in Kigali a most pleasurable and memorable one. I will Tripadvise my Safari in detail on later posts. If Bosco is an example of the staff that Umubano employ I would highly recommend that you use them.
I just got back from a very memorable trip to Rwanda two days ago! We used Umubano tours and were not disappointed! Herbert was indeed quick to answer emails and quite simply, they did a wonderful job.Just AWESOME! Our driver/guide Bosco was absolutely wonderful! He is a kind soul who made it his mission to ensure that we were happy and comfortable! He cleaned the vehicle daily and ensured that everything was just right! He was flexible and always willing to to take us where we wanted to go. Bosco shared some stories of how he and his family were affected by the genocide and he answered any questions we had about Rwanda, the history…etc. We were so happy with him and Umubano Tours! We visited The Mother Teresa Orphanage in Kigali and the The Rwandan Orphans Project (www.rwandanorphansproject.org) as well (Bosco figured out how to get us there!). Life altering experiences and I would recommend a visit. We brought stuff/money from home to donate and it was so appreciated.. The other thing is check the website www.stuffyourrucksack.com; a very cool website that hooks you up with great small organizations that you can bring small donations to (stuff small enough to fit in your pack!).I would HIGHLY recommend Umubano Tours to anyone considering a visit to this very special country. Between learning the history of the terrible genocide, to our orphanage visits, to tracking gorillas (we saw Susa and Ntmbana groups)….truly a most memorable trip. Let m know if any questions!
My girlfriend and I used Herbert Gato and the rest of the Umobano Tours team for a combined trip in Rwanda and DRC. We can definitely recommend the entire team to anyone wishing to visit this region!! Herbet himself is a magnificent tour guide and host – making a great effort to give his guests a great experience while also leaving room for them to hang out on their own and enjoy their time. Though DRC at times can be a rather rowdy place to visit, the team made sure everything proceeded as planned and the necessary safety precautions were taken. Happy to drop a mail on further questions if needed, we are definitely promoters!
